B) Hokitika Gorge, Lake Matheson, Thunder Creek Falls, Kidds Bush - 17th Oct
After Pancake Rocks Robyn, Angus, Bruce & Cathy drove to Greymouth, did a little more grocery shopping and had lunch. Bruce discovered his debit card was missing so headed back alone to collect it from Pancake rocks while Cathy went on in Robyn & Angus’ van to Hokitika Gorge where Bruce caught up with them around 2 hours later. Bruce had time to get up to the Hokitika Gorge Viewpoint only, while Kim & Mark caught up with Robyn, Angus & Cathy on the main Hokitika Gorge Walk. From there we all headed inland towards Queenstown, stopping briefly to photograph Thunder Creek Falls. We Freedom Camped that night at Kidds Bush Reserve Campsite on the shores of Lake Hakea (near Lake Wanaka). It was a truly picturesque campsite right next to lake but the only facilities were Porta-Loo toilets. No showers, no power. The 6km drive from the main road was through pristine farmland, full of sheep, spring lambs galore and cattle. Amazing place to stay for the night.
