A) Devils Punchbowl, Otira Viaduct, Rapahoe Beach, Pancake Rocks - 16th & 17th Oct

On 14th October 2024 Bruce, Cathy, Robyn, Angus, Kim & Mark met at the Rydges Airport Hotel, in Sydney, where we had dinner and spent the night. The following morning we all caught planes to Christchurch, New Zealand to stay at the Commodore Hotel but went out for dinner to a local Teppanyaki restaurant. Around 8am on 16th we all gathered in reception, checked out and were shuttled to THL, to collect and be briefed on the three Maui Ultima campervans, each couple hired. First stop was Woolworths near Christchurch Airport to buy groceries, then drove across the width of the South Island, stopping at Devils Punchbowl Waterfall Track where we were suddenly made aware how steep the New Zealand landscape can be. Stopped at Otira Viaduct Viewpoint briefly, then onto Rapahoe Beach Holiday Park on the west coast, to spend our first campervan night right on the beach. Next morning Kim & Mark went onto Greymouth and Hokitika while Robyn, Angus, Bruce & Cathy went further north, on the West Coast, to see Pancake Rocks, had a coffee then headed south to Greymouth for lunch.
