After staying in the most expensive van park known to man at Akaroa, the girls all walked down to the Akaroa Township while the boys drove the vans down to meet them. We all explored Akaroa, which has a distinct French feel, had a coffee and went on in the vans towards Christchurch. Part way through the journey Kim and Mark decided to instead go to Hanmar Spring,s to get in a heated spring pool experience and stay the night at a Holiday Park nearby. Robyn, Angus, Cathy & Bruce went into the Christchurch CBD and had lunch, parked outside Quake City. We then went into the Quake City Museum to learn a lot more about the earthquakes in 2010 & 2011, which caused 185 deaths and the effect it had on the surviving residents of Christchurch. Later, we drove past the Christchurch Cathedral, which is the most visibly, unrepaired, building in the city, then drove onto South Brighton Holiday Park near the coast. On our last day with the vans, we cleaned the vans and packed, then visited the nearby beach. Afterwards we met Kim & Mark near Lyttleton on the harbour, to drive the coastline of the harbour, where we stopped for lunch near the estuary and then drove towards the airport and THL to get diesel and LPG Gas, then onto hand in the van to THL and was shuttled to the Commodore Airport Hotel for the night. We arranged a late checkout for 1pm the next day and had dinner in Patterson’s restaurant in the hotel. Next morning we breakfasted at Patterson’s again then met again a half hour later, in the bar area to jointly collate the actual itinerary for the trip. Left a 1pm for a 4:30pm flight back home to Sydney, train and bus to Mona Vale, where Bryce picked us up and dropped us at home in Newport.
